The 24-year-old netminder joined GSHC for the first time in last year's Spengler Cup and the Grenats have been interested in him ever since, says head coach Chris McSorley: "After the departure of Tobias Stephan, it was important to hire an experienced goalie. Mayer also played a key part for us in the Spengler Cup. We are happy to have him long-term in our family."

The Swiss international played the last four seasons with the Montréal Canadiens' farmteam the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL and is looking forward to a new chapter in his life: "I could not be happier to join Geneva for my return to Switzerland. I know many players, played with some in the junior national teams or at the Spengler Cup and I had the opportunity to get coached by Chris McSorley in Davos. My NLA experience comes down to approximately ten minutes with the Kloten Flyers back in 2007, but I am looking forward to play on Swiss ice again."

Robert Mayer posted a 2.80 GAA and a 0.909 save percentage in 29 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs this season. His contract will run through 2017.
