The SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers and the former defenseman agreed on a contract as an assistant coach for one season until spring 2020.

Sven Berger: from player to assistant coach.

The SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers are expanding their coaching staff with an additional assistant trainer. The long-standing defenseman of the Lakers is changing seats on the bench and will be part of the coaching staff with Jeff Tomlinson and Niklas Gällstedt.

For Sven Berger, 31, the new position offers him the opportunity to move seamlessly from his player career to the coaching business: "I am looking forward to the new task and I am very motivated. One chapter ends, another begins, I am grateful to have had my passion as a profession over all these years. Also a heartfelt "thank you" to our fans who have supported me over all the years. Now I'm looking ahead and looking forward to the future and the upcoming tasks in my new function."

"Since my commitment in Rapperswil, expanding the coaching team has been one of my goals," says team manager Janick Steinmann, who is therefore delighted to be able to hire Sven Berger: "He has the ideal prerequisites to be a huge added value as quickly as possible. He will quickly learn live tagging, skill training, video editing and the teaching of systems and analyses. Furthermore, it is extremely important to integrate players from our own ranks into the club. His personality and know-how are an absolute win-win situation for club and player".

Sven Berger made his National League debut in 2005 and has since worn the Lakers' jersey for 13 seasons. Over the course of his career, he played 602 games for Rapperswil, Kloten and Ambrì, recording 78 points (16 goals). Moreover, he has also suited up 61 times with the Lakers in the Swiss League.
