Players who play in the World Championship need to be insured. As Vincent Praplan's contract with the Florida Panthers has expired, he would have had to be insured by the national team. However, they did not have to do this for the forward. "He is insured with SC Bern," Raeto Raffainer told Zaugg, when asked about why that was the case.

According to Zaugg, Praplan has been insured with the Bears since May 1st. Shortly after the article was published on Watson, Alex Chatelain and Vincent Praplan confirmed to Reto Kirchhofer (Berner Zeitung) that they have agreed on a four-year deal which includes an NHL out clause for the first three years of the contract. Praplan wants to play in North America for at least another season.

The 24-year-old forward played in 41 AHL games this past season for the San Jose Barracuda and the Springfield Thunderbirds. He was traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Florida Panthers in February.
