After eight seasons in the NHL, Marcus Krüger will leave North America and become part of the ZSC Lions for the next two terms. With the addition of the Swede, Zurich has found their fourth import player.
Starting his career with Djugårdens IF, Krüger played in the SHL from 2008 to 2011. In 2009, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round and went on to join them two years later. With the Hawks, the 29-year-old won the Stanley Cup twice, in 2013 and 2015. He also spent one season in the organization of the Carolina Hurricanes before being traded back to Chicago in 2018.
Krüger already is familiar with the new head coach of the Lions, Rikard Grönborg, having played for him in the Swedish national team. Together, they won the World Championship in 2017, Olympic Silver in 2014 and World Silver in 2011.
The Lions' team manager Sven Leuenberger describes the forward as an exemplary worker with broad experience and the ability to lead a line.
In his 607 NHL-appearances, Krüger recorded 44 goals and 95 assists.
