The reasons for the deficit are not difficult to find: the Lions did not qualify for the playoffs in the 2018-19 season.

ZSC Lions once again with a deficit

While the deficit has increased from CHF 1.31 million to CHF 1.733 million, it could have been much worse. As Simon Graf writes in the Tages-Anzeiger, while they would have generated about CHF 800,000 in the playoffs, they would have had to pay for the costs of security. Also, they broke their own record for the amount of season tickets sold. Last season, 7834 fans owned a ZSC Lions season ticket.

Given their difficult season, it comes as no surprise that they also generated less revenue (CHF 17.4 million) than in the 2017-18 season (CHF 18.9 million). Also, they have increased their equity. It is now at CHF 9 million.

However, they also spent less money on personnel due to the fact that they did not have to pay the players' playoff performance bonuses and their injured players were covered by the accident insurance.
