Malgin decided to extend his commitment with LHC after careful reflections: "..because it's the best thing for my career. Here I can gain a lot of playing experience and take on responsibility," he told the same source. Nevertheless, he hopes for a speedy return to North America: "My goal remains the NHL."

The forward, selected by the Florida Panthers in the 4th round of the 2015 NHL Draft, was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2020, who signed him to a one-year, one-way extension deal around half a year later.

Ever since his debut in the NHL, Malgin has appeared in 184 games with the Panthers (28 goals, 32 assists) and eight games with the Maple Leafs. With Lausanne HC, he has managed to put up eleven goals and eleven assists in 19 games this season so far.
