The 31-year-old Canadian moves to Russia as soon as all the paperwork is done, Lausanne HC writes in a press release. Barberio remains under contract with Lausanne but will finish the season on loan with Ak Bars Kazan.

The loan to the KHL is a result of Barberio's eight-game suspension, which he received after he broke Garrett Roe's jaw. "Facing the situation following the suspension, this is a good opportunity for Mark to get some ice time and find some peace", LHC's Director of Hockey Operations, Petr Svoboda, is quoted in the press release.

For Lausanne, the defender has played 14 games this season thus far, scoring six assists.
