As his team did not qualify for the playoffs, Dmitri Shikin was free to look elsewhere for an arrangement for the final part of the 2021-22 season. EHC Biel thus reinforces their goalie department, which until now was formed by Joren van Pottelberghe and Elien Paupe.
In his career, Shikin has only ever played in the KHL, therefore Biel will be his first experience outside the Russian-based league. This season, Shikin dressed up 24 times for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg posting a save percentage of 92.0%.
