"I have enjoyed my time in Örebro very much but now new adventures await," Robin Kovács writes in his farewell statement. It is also revealed that the forward will continue his career in Switzerland.
Örebro did not disclose which team he will play for next season, but, according to Blick, he will join Lausanne HC. The length of his contract has also been revealed. According to SVT Sport (and reiterated by Blick), he has signed a three-year deal.
As for why he decided to leave Sweden, Kovács states that he needs a clean slate: "I've got the stamp of being messy. Among other things, the speeding and the subsequent tragedy. This is exactly what I want to get away from and wash away." Kovács is alluding to a case from back in 2017 when he and another driver went well over the speed limit and it led to an accident involving a third party. The driver of the other car died.
He also reveals to the same source that he has sought the help of a psychologist as he is "quite impulsive" and is dealing with ADHD. He adds that he is doing better but that he continues to see a psychologist on a regular basis: "I've had a few scrappy years off the ice. I need to focus just on hockey and family and then I'll take it from there."
The Swede, who was drafted by the New York Rangers in 2015, appeared in 52 regular-season games for Örebro, recording 21 goals and 20 assists.
