With the acquisition of Gabriel Carlsson, EV Zug has decided to start the 2024-25 season with three import defenders, as fellow Swedes Lukas Bengtsson and Niklas Hansson still have a valid contract for the upcoming season. With the Bulls, Carlsson has signed a two-year deal.

Reto Kläy, team manager of EV Zug, describes Carlsson as "a two-way defenseman with a strong first pass and a good overview of the game".

This season, Carlsson suited up in 53 championship games for the Växjö Lakers, scoring nine goals and recording 20 assists. Moreover, in nine Champions Hockey League games, he collected three points. From 2017 to 2022 Carlsson played in North America in the organization of the Columbus Blue Jackets and, last year, for the Washington Capitals and their partner team in the AHL, winning the Calder Cup.
