HC Lugano will be in possession of his B-license. Originally, Matthys was under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta until mid-September as an injury replacement for Connor Hughes. However, loaned to the Rockets, he was able to convince the staff to sign him long term.
Matthys minded the net for the Trinity Western University for the past five seasons. It is his first season in Switzerland since the 2012-13 championship when he played for HC Sierre.
