The changes will be implemented effective immediately and were necessary due to the uncertain situation regarding the amount of teams that will play in the Swiss League in the 2023-24 season.
If the 2023-24 season will see less than nine teams in the Swiss League, two teams of the MHL, which have been cleared for promotion, will directly be promoted to the Swiss League. They have to reach at least the quarterfinals of the playoffs, though.
If the 2023-24 season will see nine or ten teams in the Swiss League, one team of the MHL, which has been cleared for promotion, will directly be promoted to the Swiss League. They have to reach at least the semifinals of the playoffs, though. If two teams, which are cleared for promotion, reach the final, both will be promoted to the Swiss League.
If the 2023-24 season will see eleven teams in the Swiss League, one team of the MHL, which has been cleared for promotion, will directly be promoted to the Swiss League. They have to reach at least the semifinals of the playoffs, though.
Once the Swiss League is back to twelve teams, the last placed team will be directly relegated to the MyHockey League and the champion of the MyHockey League will be directly promoted to the Swiss League. If they are, however, not cleared for promotion, the Swiss League team will also not be relegated.
The Swiss League team and the 'Koordinations-Gremium' have also decided to extend the deadline for the teams to make a decision regarding a voluntary relegation. Originally, it was set for January 31. It is now on February 15. Next season, the date will be back to January 31.
