For now, Yannick Weber remains in North America with a contract that is worth $700,000 at the NHL level. Before joining Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Penguins, however, Weber has to pass through waivers. Earlier in January, Weber had signed a professional try-out with his former team, the Nashville Predators, from which, though, he was released two weeks ago.

Pittsburgh had been looking to hire a defenseman to add depth to their roster after three of their defenders had to be sidelined with injuries.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be the fourth team in the NHL career of Yannick Weber, having spent time with the Montreal Canadiens, the Vancouver Canucks, and the Nashville Predators. Over the course of 539 games, the defender has recorded 100 points.
