Called up a month ago, Schmid started a total of seven games (six of which he finished) and came in relief once. In his first start during this stretch on February 25, he managed to earn his first shutout in the NHL, stopping 23 shots against Philadelphia.
With Blackwood coming back from injury, New Jersey has decided to do the logical thing and assign Schmid back down to the Utica Comets. There is a chance he will get called up again once the playoffs start.
