The 23-year-old and his club, the KHL's Avangard Omsk, have mutually agreed to dissolve their contract.

As Nikita Scherbak's agent Sergei Isakov tells the Russian news agency TASS, his phone has been ringing since the forward has been released from Avangard Omsk this morning. Apparently, also a Swiss team called: "Two KHL clubs called and there was a call from Switzerland," Isakov says. "Now, Nikita and I are choosing the option, which will suit my client best."

Nikita Scherbak has been drafted by the Montreal Canadians 21nd overall in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He appeared in 37 NHL-games for the Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings (six goals, two assists). This summer, he signed a three-year contract with the KHL's Avangard Omsk, the team of Swiss forward Sven Andrighetto.
