While the Saint John Sea Dogs won the Memorial Cup last week, the 19-year-old Swiss defender did not receive much ice time in the later stages of the season. Vincent Despont, however, is optimistic about the future: "Next season, I will be one of the leaders of the team and I will have more playing time," he says to La Liberté.
A return to EHC Kloten, his youth team with which he still has a contract until 2023, is out of the question for now: "Four months ago, Kloten's team manager called me," Despont says. "He didn't call again. I think he knew that I would stay another year in Saint John. I feel good there and I get along great with the Sea Dogs' GM."
