The decision has been taken this morning after the canton of Ticino declared a state of emergency yesterday. HC Lugano's CEO Marco Werder is thankful for how the clubs have handled the situation: "Swiss ice hockey has shown a strong sense of solidarity between the different regions of the country," he said in a press release.
Filippo Lombardi, president of HC Ambrì-Piotta, wrote on Twitter that "it's a painful, but inevitable decision. (...) Public health is the only thing that matters now and everyone must understand that restrictive measures are necessary."
While EV Zug's CEO Patrick Lengwiler stated that "the health of the fans, the teams and the employees is our top priority", HC Davos' president Gaudenz Domenig explained in an interview with the Südostschweiz that there is more at stake than just hockey: "We mustn't forget that for many people it's a matter of life and death. Hockey must be able to say: 'We got off cheap'."
