Given that they will not generate any income from their games for a while, the clubs have asked for state subsidies. This will be difficult to pass through parliament. Federal Councillor Viola Amherd will, however, analyse the situation and then see what they can come up with.

"The demands must be seriously discussed. The Federal Council will do so - in the overall context with all other sectors that are in a difficult situation, " Viola Amherd tells the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. "I am certainly not saying that state subsidies for professional clubs would not be an option at all. But I made no promises at the round table."

She also makes clear that if they would go down the state subsidies route, the leagues will have to disclose their entire salary structure. They also discussed short-term work for employees who have temporary employment contracts. Compensations for those employees would, however, require a change in the law.
