Blue Jackets reassign Elvis Merzlikins to the AHL

The 25-year-old goaltender will join Columbus' AHL-affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, for a couple of games.

It is likely that Elvis Merzlikins will not have to stay in the AHL for too long. As hockey writer Aaron Portzline (The Athletic) writes, the reason for Merzlikins' reassignment is for him to receive some more ice time.

Told #CBJ demotion of Elvis Merzlikins to @monstershockey is simply for him to stay active. Don’t think he packed a large suitcase, as he’s likely to meet the club on road trip either in Denver (maybe) or Montreal (more likely).
