As the SIHF announced, Kukan does not feel in shape after this season to support the national team at the World Championship. A little earlier, the Columbus Blue Jackets' beat writer Jeff Svoboda reported that the defenseman, rather than playing at the Worlds, wants to start working toward next year right away.
The Blue Jackets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Boston Bruins on Monday night this week. Kukan played only 25 regular season games on NHL level this term but then managed to secure himself a roster spot for Columbus' playoff run. He also scored his first NHL goal in Game 5 of the series against Boston.
