"We have opened the door again," Patrick Fischer says in an interview with Klaus Zaugg (Watson). "Everyone has a chance again, the clocks are back to zero for everyone." Players who decided to opt out of the World Championship 2019, such as Malgin, Herzog, Schlumpf, or Kukan, have not played a role for Fischer anymore ever since.
That the Swiss players in the NHL will get a clearance from their clubs is not yet safe to say: "I think and hope that the clubs will not stop the players from participating in the World Championship," Fischer says to Zaugg and adds that also Luca Sbisa, who only played one NHL game this season so far, and Sven Bärtschi (AHL) will get their chance.
The IIHF Worlds 2021 will take place in Latvia from May 21 to June 6. The Swiss team will start the tournament on May 22 against Czechia. Moreover, they are going to face Denmark, Sweden, Slovakia, Russia, Belarus, and Great Britain in Group A.
