As La Liberté (relayed by SwissHabs) reported on Thursday, the Czech was in possession of a clause in his contract which led to an automatic extension of his deal in case of the Dragons clinching a playoff spot. That happened on Wednesday.

Team manager Christian Dubé and Birner came to an agreement after discussing the situation that Birner would indeed stay with HCFG beyond this season. The Czech has appeared in 37 games for the Dragons this season, recording eight goals and 19 assists.
