The 21-year-old forward expects to be invited to the Washington Capitals' training camp and would thus only return to Switzerland in early October. Speaking of the NHL, Riat also told the newspaper that the Caps' plan for him is to the stay two more years in Switzerland before going overseas as "they think it's better for my development to play in Switzerland than in the AHL".
Riat has a valid contract with EHC Biel until the end of the 2019-20 season. Drafted by the Capitals in 2016, he has yet to sign an entry-level contract with the NHL team.
