Bayer was not the only candidate for the position, there also was interest by former EHC Kloten-team manager Pascal Müller and former SC Bern-forward Marc Reichert.

45-year-old Bayer served as assistant of Tigers' head coach Heinz Ehlers last season. Before that, he was in Bern's organization and was also with several Swiss junior national teams as head or assistant coach over the course of four years. As a player, the former defenseman suited up for HC Davos, EHC Chur, ZSC, EHC Kloten, EV Zug, HC Ambrì-Piotta, the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers and Langnau. He ended his professional playing career after the 2008-2009 season.

According to Watson, the Tigers will announce this decision at the beginning of next week.
