According to the Luzerner Zeitung, EV Zug will not extend another offer for a contract extension to Holden, neither for the National League team nor for their Swiss League team, the EVZ Academy. Even though Holden is supposed to get the Swiss passport in the near future, Zug will not count on his services as a player anymore.

The club, however, is interested in keeping Holden in their organization, the same source reports. One option is to hire him as a coach for one of their youth teams. For that, however, Holden needs the Swiss passport. People from outside the European Union need to be experts in their field in order to receive a work permit.

Over the course of his career, Josh Holden has spent 13 seasons in Switzerland. He joined HC Fribourg-Gottéron in 2005, then spent one season with the SCL Tigers before he moved to EV Zug, where played for ten seasons. The 40-year-old played 657 games in the National League, in which he was able to put up 640 points (251 goals, 389 assists).
