The 21-year-old forward went to North America after GSHC was ousted from the playoffs in order to play nine games for the San Jose Barracuda, the San Jose Sharks' AHL affiliate. Before he went overseas, he told Le Matin that he was not sure if it had been his last game for the Grenats.

Rod signed an entry-level deal with the Sharks in March 2017 and has since played with GSHC on loan from the Sharks. Rod is currently playing in the World Championship for the Swiss national team.
