The 18-year-old went through several junior levels with EHC Dübendorf, partner-team of the Lions, before joining Zurich's organization in 2015. This past season, he made his debut for the GCK Lions in the Swiss League, playing 36 games with them, and for the ZSC Lions in the National League, where he suited up eight times during the regular season and 15 times (out of a possible 18) in the playoffs.

"Tim Berni is an ambitious defenseman with good vision, very good skating skills and a for his age respectable calmness with the puck", Lions' team manager Sven Leuenberger comments on the player.

Even if Berni gets selected in the NHL Entry-Draft later this month, he will play for Zurich next season nonetheless.
