The 49-year-old Canadian was set to join HC Lugano's youth department and coach their Elite-A. Because they could not obtain a permit, the Bianconeri have decided to add DePiero to the coaching staff of the National League team. He joins head coach Greg Ireland as his second assistant coach, in addition to Jussi Silander.

As a consequence, Lugano has announced a new coaching duo for their Elite-A: Luca Gianinazzi, 25, will become head coach, Paolo Morini, 23, assistant coach. Last season, Morini played for the HCB Ticino Rockets in the Swiss League. Gianinazzi acted as Krister Cantoni's assistant for Lugano's Elite Novices.
