SC Bern, EV Zug or the ZSC Lions - these were the three options for Swiss international Leonardo Genoni. Only a couple of days ago, his agent Ernst Wüthrich said that it will probably be a race between EV Zug and SC Bern. Now, the dice are cast: The 30-year-old will leave Bern and join EV Zug on a five-year deal as of the 2019-20 season.

"We wanted a long-term solution," EV Zug's team manager Reto Kläy says in a press release. "There aren't many goaltenders of this caliber on the market. We couldn't wait and had to take this opportunity".

With the signing of Leonardo Genoni, current goaltender Tobias Stephan has to leave Zug after this season. "He's done an excellent job in the past years and I'm sure he will do an excellent job in the upcoming season," Kläy says. "But from a long-term perspective, we had to make this decision."
