Forward Damien Riat will not join the Washington Capitals for now. The deadline for his out-clause has passed, as the Bieler Tagblatt writes.

The Capitals would have had to sign Riat to a contract by mid-July, which did not happen. Therefore, after a short stint in the US to undergo a fitness test with Washington at the beginning of September, the 21-year-old will return to EHC Biel.

Riat was drafted by the Caps in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The Bieler Tagblatt also reports that the future of Biel's captain, Mathieu Tschantré, will be decided in December. The 34-year-old is going into his 15th season with the team and the biggest factor in deciding if there will be more is going to be his health.
