Schlumpf's contract would have expired at the end of the current season. The national team player has been part of EVZ's organisation since the 2014-15 season when he was "traded" from HC Lugano to the Bulls in exchange for Alessio Bertaggia and Calle Andersson.

The defender was also part of the Swiss Olympic team but did not take part in the World Championships this year. He is currently out of the lineup due to a knee injury he sustained in the preseason.
