According to Teleticino's Luca Sciarini, this scenario seems not to be unlikely, since HC Lugano is actively courting Robert Mayer with negotiations that are apparently well underway.
The Bianconeri are looking for a replacement of Elvis Merzlikins, who will most likely try his luck overseas within the Columbus Blue Jackets organization next season. Will it be GSHC's Robert Mayer? LHC's Sandro Zurkirchen? CSKA Moskva's Swede Lars Johansson? Or someone else?
In an interview with the Corriere del Ticino last November, HC Lugano's team manager Roland Habisreutinger explained that their next goaltender will be a foreigner. Just a couple of days before he had expressed his wish in an interview with 20 Minuti to replace Merzlikins with a Swiss goalie, if possible.
