Elvis Merzlikins leaves HC Lugano in direction of North America. In case of a return, Lugano will be his priority.

"It's the right time for me," the 24-year-old explains in an interview with SRF. "I don't want to stay in Europe anymore, but face a new challenge." The new challenge is called North America, his goal: the NHL. The Columbus Blue Jackets are in possession of his NHL-rights.

In case the young goalie would not succeed overseas, one thing is clear for him: "A return is always an option. I will always speak to Lugano first. But I'm not wasting my thoughts on that at the moment," he says to the same source.

Elvis Merzlikins is a homegrown talent of HC Lugano. He made his debut in Switzerland's highest league in the 2013-14 season. In this regular season, he suited up in 43 games and posted a save percentage of 92.07% and a goals against average of 2.44.
