After being knocked out of playoffs in only four games by EV Zug, HC Lugano-president Vicky Mantegazza and the sports management have decided to let go head coach Greg Ireland and one of his assistants, Jussi Silander. Their contracts, which still last until April 30, 2019, will not be extended.

Under Ireland, the Bianconeri made it to the finals last year, eventually losing out on the title in Game 7. They also made the semifinals in 2016-17, his first season with them, when he came in to replace Doug Shedden in January.

It is not yet known what will happen with Chris De Piero, the second assistant coach, but Lugano informs that they will define his position in the upcoming weeks.
