HC Lugano has found their guy for in between the pipes for the next two seasons, as Sandro Zurkirchen will join the team. Reports have already been speaking of Lugano's interest in the 29-year-old for quite a while, but Lausanne, his former team, still had to make a decision about if they want to let the netminder go. His contract with the Lions would still have been valid for one more year.

Zurkirchen will be taking over for Elvis Merzlikins, who left Southern Switzerland in an attempt to fulfill his dream of playing in the NHL.

The netminder made his National League debut in the 2008-09 season with EV Zug, where he went also spent most of his junior time. The following years, he was mostly employed as a backup in Zug, but also received the chance to play on loan for HC Thurgau. In 2013, he signed with HC Ambrì-Piotta, staying with them for four years, before continuing his career in Lausanne and now in Lugano.
