The 34-year-old forward would have had a deal in place with HC Lugano until the end of the 2020-21 season. According to Andrea Branca (HeShootsHeScoores), he has signed a contract with another team. According to Patrick Della Valle (Teleticino), the team in question is the Eisbären Berlin.

As to why Lapierre left the team, team manager Hnat Dominichelli tells HeShootsHeScoores that he could not guarantee Lapierre a fixed spot in the team. It would have been a possibility for the forward to become the fifth import player. This was a situation the Canadian did not want to be in. He thus decided to sign with another team.

Lapierre has been a member of the Bianconeri since 2016. The forward played a total of 175 championship games for HC Lugano, recording 48 goals and 72 assists.
