As Jalonen states, there was interest from other clubs, but Bern had priority. "I enjoy working in Bern. And I love this city. Leaving all this behind: I never thought about that", he comments. He mentions that he did not feel the urge to look for a new challenge, as has happened while working with other teams prior to his current job. "I rather felt: Bern is my place, I want to remain here."

As response to why it only is a one-year deal, Jalonen says that this way, it is fair for both sides and they can revisit the issue in a year. He also mentions that there is no option for an extension in the current contract.
