On January 11 2019, Torrey Mitchell sustained a severe concussion after a check to his head by EV Zug's defenseman Raphael Diaz. Ever since that game, Mitchell has not played anymore. At the end of the 2018-19 season, his first outside North America, Mitchell decided to put an end to his professional career. He went back to the United States and started a new business consisting of the creation of a custom ice rink and personal training facility.

With Lausanne HC, the 34-year-old suited up 29 times, scoring seven goals and putting up five assists. During the 2018-19 season, Mitchell also participated in the Spengler Cup with Team Canada.
