Roman Červenka will also have to pay a fine of CHF 2,260 for a hit to the head of HC Ambrì-Piotta's Elias Bianchi. Originally, the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers forward did not receive a suspension by the single judge.
HC Ambrì-Piotta appealed the judge's decision. The SIHF tribunal looked at the case again and came to the conclusion that while Bianchi's comportment in the situation was a bit unfortunate, Červenka still exaggerated by extending the elbow against the approaching Bianchi and hitting him directly on the head.
This led the tribunal to the conclusion that the IIHF rule 124 III. 3. (a penalty for checking to the head or neck will be assessed if the player extends and directs any part of his upper body to make contact with the head or neck of an opponent) has been violated. They also deemed it a category 1 offence, which means, in this particular case, that Červenka receives a match penalty for his play (one-game suspension and a fine).
