Martinsen has been playing in North America since the 2015-16 season. He played in 154 NHL games for the Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Blackhawks. This season, he suited up for the San Diego Gulls and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, recording one goal and two assists in 24 games for the latter AHL team.
