National League

The prospect of the National League allowing up to ten import-players in the future gives René Fasel, president of the IIHF, goose bumps.

The president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has a clear opinion about raising the import-player contingent in Switzerland: "The intention to play with ten import-players is the greatest stupidity imaginable," Fasel tells Klaus Zaugg (Watson).

"I am often asked by foreign hockey experts whether this is true," Fasel continues. "They just can't believe it."

René Fasel is sure that such a new rule would not endure for long and that it will leave lasting impacts: "If the league admits ten import-players, the nonsense will be reversed after three years and it will then take ten years to correct its consequences."
