Having signed a six-year deal with HC Lugano, defenseman Mirco Müller is nonetheless working towards a new NHL deal.

That Müller has signed a multi-year deal with the Bianconeri currently only seems to be an insurance in case he does not get a new deal in the NHL. As he tells Le Matin, he has not yet closed the NHL chapter: "Lugano made me a very good offer, but I hope there will be opportunities in the NHL for next season," the 26-year-old says.

Müller also wants to make use of the World Championship in Riga to showcase himself: "It will certainly depend on my tournament and my performance here in Latvia," he says about the chances of him earning a new NHL deal. HC Lugano will thus have to wait and see if they will be able to count on Müller next season or not.

Later in the afternoon, on the website of the Corriere del Ticino, HCL's team manager Hnat Domenichelli reassured Lugano's fans that Müller will indeed start with the season with the Bianconeri as planned: "There was a misunderstanding on the part of the journalist, who misinterpreted his words" Domenichelli explains.
