The 22-year-old Latvian defenseman has extended his expiring contract until 2023.

Sandis Smons arrived in Geneva from Latvia in 2014, and since then he acquired a Swiss player's license and played 85 National League. Marc Gautschi, GSHC's team manager, believes that Smons has great potential: "He proved it during the last playoffs when he was able to raise his level of play. This new contract year should allow Sandis to take a new step in his professional career."

This season, Smons has collected three assists in 32 championship games with Genève-Servette HC and four points in 14 games on loan to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds in the Swiss League. He is also part of the extended squad of the Latvian national team.
