The pandemic has cost HC Davos dearly. For this season, CEO Marc Gianola expects a deficit somewhere between CHF 2.5 and 3.5 million.

Thanks to their qualification for the playoff semifinals, HC Davos was able to lower the deficit by about one million, Gianola says in an interview with the Südostschweiz. He sees the main reason for the deficit in the cancellation of the Spengler Cup and the Covid-restrictions that cost them about 1000 spectators per game.

To bring the club back on track financially, they now want to carry out a capital increase in fall. "Before the pandemic, we had equity of around six million francs," Gianola explains. "Due to the large losses last year and this year, this has been used up. With the capital increase, we now want to replenish it."

However, if this capital increase will actually come about and let HC Davos leave the pandemic behind them financially is not yet sure. "You can never be sure," Gianola admits. "But we are hearing a lot of positive things from the club's environment. We are confident that we can do this."
