Although the 37-year-old did not end his career with SC Bern, his number 29 will be retired and raised to the rafters of the PostFinance Arena.

HC Fribourg-Gottéron

As reported by the Blick, that is what SC Bern's COO Rolf Bachmann announced at Philippe Furrer's farewell gala "Slap" on Saturday, which was attended by more than 500 people, among them family, friends, partners, fans and former companions on the ice.

Furrer suited up in more than 500 National League games for his youth team SC Bern before he moved to the shores of lake Lugano in 2015 and to Fribourg three years later.

The decision to draw Furrer's numbers under the roof is somewhat surprising, as he did not finish his career with SCB, which is actually one of the club's criteria regarding the retirement of jersey numbers. "I'm at a loss for words," the 37-year-old said, overwhelmed by this honor.
