As HC Lugano informs, the Bianconeri will not extend Steve Hirschi's contract. Consequently, the 35-year-old will no longer play for the Bianconeri in the 2017-18 season.

"I accept and understand the club's decision, but I want to continue to play" Hirschi states.  For now, he wants to concentrate on the upcoming games and the post-season. The 34-year-old joined the Bianconeri in 2003 and will now leave their NLA team after 14 seasons with them. He has, however, received an offer to work as a coach in their youth program.

Hirschi has appeared in 563 NLA games for the Bianconeri thus far. This season, he has played 37 games for Lugano, putting up five points (three goals, two assists).
