At the end of March, Flavio Viglezio (Corriere del Ticino) wrote that Lugano had already extended Lapierre's contract which had included an option for the 2017-18 season. Now, team manager Habisreutinger confirms this: "Maxim is one of our centers next year."

Lapierre joined HC Lugano in January of 2016. Last summer, he signed a professional tryout contract with the New York Rangers. After having been released by the NHL team, Lapierre returned to the Ticino in October. This past term, he appeared in 38 NLA games, scoring 23 points (ten goals, 13 assists).
