Zwerger most recently played for the Everett Silvertips in North America's Western Hockey League (WHL). Along with Ambrì, also HC Lugano was reportedly interested in the 19-year-old left winger. The Biancoblù, who had sent a delegation over to Everett this past November in order to convince Zwerger to sign with them, however, finally managed to decide this race in their favor.

Zwerger is in possession of a Swiss players' license, as he played for the junior teams of Rheintal, Herisau, and HC Davos before he left for North America in 2013. For the Silvertips this term, he managed to put up 32 goals and 58 assists in a total of 77 games.
