EHC Olten's appeal against the no-suspension decision on HCT's Toms Andersons taken by the league's Player Safety Officer (PSO) has been rejected, the Oltner Tagblatt reports.

The controversial incident took place in the second game of the playoff quarterfinal series on February 27 in the third period, when HC Thurgau's right winger Toms Andersons executed a suspected illegal hit to the head of EHC Olten's defender Anthony Rouiller.

As the PSO, Stéphane Auger, did not find any illegal action in the play ("no request"), the league's single judge Olivier Krüger, for his part, was not able to initiate any proceedings. The consequence for EHC Olten, expressed in simple terms: No proceedings = No possibility to appeal.

EHC Olten had the opportunity to submit a "club request" to the PSO until 4 pm the day after the game, which would have been a specific call on Auger to investigate the potential illegal play. However, as the Oltner Tagblatt points out, club requests happen rarely because of financial risks. In case of a "defeat", the clubs have to cover the entire procedural costs.

Nevertheless, EHC Olten has not yet thrown in the towel. Apparently, there is a passage in the legal guidelines that could be interpreted differently.
