Wichser made his debut in the NLA during the 1997-1998 season with EHC Kloten. He stayed with Kloten for five years before going southwards and joining HC Lugano. With the Bianconeri, Wichser won his first Swiss championship in 2003. After three years there, he went on to play for the ZSC Lions, winning another national title and the 2008-2009 edition of the Champions Hockey League, as well as the Victoria Cup in 2009, beating the Chicago Blackhawks.

The forward started the 2011-2012 season with the GCK Lions, but left them for the SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers halfway through. Two years later, in 2014, Wichser signed with HC Thurgau. He stayed for two seasons before rejoining his youth team, EHC Winterthur.

Wichser also suited up 99 times for the Swiss national team. He participated in five World Championships as well as the 2006 Olympics in Turin.

Now, after 21 seasons and 964 games in the two top Swiss leagues, the former ninth-round pick of the Florida Panthers decided to retire from professional hockey. He will take over a coaching position on a level in the youth department of Winterthur and act as a skills coach for the whole department.
